Widowed mother Rene Anderson, has devoted herself to running her bistro and whose entire social life consists of trying to be the BFF of her 15-year-old daughter, Headly. Though still grieving her father’s death five years ago, Headly has begun to discover boys and falls for a handsome jock. Determined to free herself from her mother’s constant presence, Headly concocts a variety of schemes to find her mother’s “future husband,” employing everything from interviews for “a Social Studies class” to setting up an online profile of her mom. The plan seems to come together with the introduction of widowed father Andrew, until a misunderstanding threatens to ruin her scheme. Ultimately, mother and daughter realize that they have to deal with their past before opening their hearts to future romantic possibilities.
